Melasma, also referred to as chloasma, occurs when irregular patches of dark skin occur on the face or forearms. These tan or brown patches often occur evenly on the brow, nose, cheeks, or upper lip. The appearance of melasma distinguishes it from other conditions that cause dark patches on the skin. Melasma is a common condition and is found more often in women. It can be due to sun damage or hormonal changes, such as menopause and pregnancy. Those with darker skin types are more inclined to melasma than those who have lighter complexions. What are Treatment Options for Melasma?
There are several possibilities for treating melasma. First, there are a variety of topical ointments, lotions, or gels that may be prescribed to help encourage skin lightening. I was able to get in very quickly and discuss my concerns with a few moles that I have. Dr. Mishra put me at ease and assured me they were benign, but also gave me some options for removal if it was something I wanted to do in the future. I didn’t feel pressured for unnecessary procedures, in fact he seemed very against doing anything that wasn’t 100% necessary which was a nice change from some other doctors. I’m recommending my husband to him as well for his rosacea.
